Originally from Vancouver, Salt Spring Island singer-songwriter Sharon Bailey takes an Americana playbook and translates it into an original west-coast blend of alt country, folk roots and rock. Her new album, Play Me A Song, is currently charting on independent radio alt country/roots charts across Canada. This lush and luminous new work showcases melodic hooks and memorable lines, accompanied for this show by the stellar upright bass of Alan Kerr.
After years playing venues and festivals across western Canada with both Kat Wahamaa and Tuepelo Honey, and opening for acts such as Michelle Shocked and Lynn Miles, Bailey released her previous album, The Heart of Everything, in 2018. Taking inspiration from such artists as Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams and Natalie Merchant, Bailey’s songs reflect on her urban origins, her new rural realities and the positive power of music itself.
