Small Opera

Small Opera is the brainchild of the multifaceted Jason Bienia. He gracefully weaves together a diverse array of genres to cultivate a refreshingly unique sound. In 2019 the musically lush and enthralling project Small Opera was born. The band consists of Jason, Shadi- Toloui- Wallace and the gifted Greg Coles on standup bass. Shadi has four impressive solo albums under her belt and was in the Vancouver based neo-funk band Tiny Havoc. They are joined by the gifted Greg Coles on standup bass, a professional jazz player who has played extensively and globally. He performs and writes music under the moniker Ecstatic Quiet, a powerful and innovative modular synth project. Small Opera are packed to the brim with depth, skill and diversity. Their extensive experience lends itself well to this wonderfully experimental project. The band name is inspired by “the grandiose nature of seemingly small moments.” Their music is both calming and dizzying, stirring up a slew of undiscovered emotions. Small Opera’s debut EP “New River” showcases their accessible complexity and poetic stylings. They are inspired by the charming campiness of David Lynch, the witty songwriting of local legend Destroyer and the heartstring plucking of Gord Downie’s solo recordings. Their music travels the intersection between art-rock and folk, it’s experimental but it knows where it's going. “New River” takes you on a scenic walk through their endlessly captivating sonic vision.

Redwoods

Redwoods is the true epitome of a powerhouse 4-piece. The raging fire of sound which burns beneath Devon Webber's soaring and soulful vocals is a blend we have trouble finding in today's music. A band which sticks true to their rock god influences but at the same time leads their own march in search of a diverse rock-and-roll sound. 80's inspired classic, crunchy guitar riffs and jaw-dropping solos are always on the menu, as well as the down-right heavy rock tones and melodies heard from bands such as Audioslave, Foo Fighters and Big Wreck. Redwoods' performances are notoriously fun, sweaty and infectious. They breathe electricity into each member of the room like a contagious rock-and-roll virus.

Red Haven

In Western Canadian folk festivals, weathered traditions of song-sharing and musical cross-pollination carry the ideals of folk music into the right-swiping, touch-typing, conversationally challenged future. It's there that Red Haven honed their craft. Drawing inspiration from jazz and soul but redesigning it with Indie-Pop songwriting and a heavy backbeat, Red Haven have been touring their raucous, spirited brand of folk for the past 4 years.

Featuring the work of songwriters Jen Charters, Nathan Turner, and Brendan Steele, Red Haven tells a story that is both entertaining and incisive. Each brings a unique flavour to the band: Charters, lightning-quick gypsy jazz saxophone and powerful blues vocals; Turner, uplifting songs with a country lilt from behind the upright bass; and Steele, dark and angular guitar lines to match cutting lyrics. Their creative chemistry got a injection of energy with the adoption of drummer Max Ley into the group, who brought prog-rock chops with just the right amount of swagger and swing.

Fear the Wolves

Fear The Wolves is a band armed to the teeth with memorable hooks that effortlessly tap into the popular modern rock sound of today, but at the same time is nostalgic of early 2000‘s alternative grunge-rock (Nickleback, Korn, Finger 11). This trio is making their mark in a clearly defined and unique way, paying homage to the influences that they each pull from, as well as their individual experiences in the industry (members of Chilled Clarity, and many other projects, alongside a collective love of music production and custom music equipment). With eclectic, memorable guitar riffs rising over a percussive bass line and impeccably timed drums, even the most catatonic audience members will find themselves sweating in the pit.
